May 15, 2020 – Last week processors of medicinal and aromatic plants (MAPs) around Kosovo, as well as their contracted chamomile farmers have started harvesting their chamomile. The harvesting work has been steadily ongoing for Istog-based Dervish Krasniqi (owns 5 ha), Agrololi (owns 15 ha) and Gusari i Ri (owns 15 ha), as well as major processor Agroproduct on its 30 hectares of land. The quality of chamomile is good and the rain in the last couple of weeks has had a positive impact on the good quality and yield of harvest. Grants awarded by USAID and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development (MAFRD) have helped most of these companies/farmers invest in the purchase of new equipment such as harvesters, dryers, and machine weeders, which are contributing to the expansion of their harvesting capacities. The harvest of chamomile is foreseen to last for another 10 days.
