USAID and MAFRD Grants Continue Assisting Kosovo’s Soft Fruit Sector

30 April, 2020 – Today, three more Kosovo producers and processors received assistance in form of grants from USAID and the Kosovo Ministry of Agriculture in the total amount of 253,366 Euro. The first grant was awarded to Association Mjedra e Llapit, where the main beneficiaries of the assistance are its members. The amount of 54,528 Euro (with additional cost-share from the association) was awarded to the association for the expansion of production of raspberries on an additional 8 hectares of raspberry production, spread across 20 new orchards (growers) of 0.25 ha to 0.50 ha. This will generate work to 20 rural households from the Llapi region, who will be involved in the harvesting of raspberries and other seasonal activities. The second grantee to sign a grant agreement was berry collection and processing center Dyzi Berry Fruits in Podujeva municipality, in the amount of 80,990 Euro (with a 50% cost-share from the company) for the expansion of blueberry production, collection and processing capacities. The grant will help set up 2.8 hectares of modern blueberry plantations, involving contracted farmers of the Podujevo region. The third grantee is relatively new company Berry K from Istog, which received a grant of 117,848 Euro and will also be matched at 50% cost-share by the company. The assistance will go toward the establishment of a modern 3-hectare blueberry orchard in the Dukagjini region, improving orchard infrastructure by installing a modern irrigation system and other best agriculture practices. These grants were financed by the Kosovo Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MAFRD).
