USAID and MAFRD Grants Continue Boosting Kosovo’s Soft Fruit Sector

5 July, 2019 – Today, three more Kosovo producers and processors received assistance in form of grants from USAID and the Kosovo Ministry of Agriculture in the total amount of 372,933 Euro. Laberion from Podujeve, one of the largest juice companies in Kosovo, handling the collection, classification, freezing and export of soft fruits, received a grant of 152,935 Euro for increasing competitiveness through the modernization of its strawberry collection and processing capacities. This assistance will contribute to the establishment of 8 new hectares of commercial strawberries, the establishment of a new packaging line, and the increase of the Laberion cooling capacities/facilities. Joni-Sh who was established in 2016 and works in the export raspberry market, was assisted with a grant amount of 150,080 Euro for the establishment of 10 hectares of raspberry and improving storage and packing facilities. The third grantee is Mana company, a family business founded in 2016 in the Junik municipality. It deals with the cultivation and sales of raspberries and blueberries. It is run by a young newly-graduated business woman and supported by six permanent employees. The company received 69,900 Euro for the expansion of cultivation of blueberries. The company will establish 3.5 new hectares of cultivated blueberry plantations and install a drip irrigation system for the new plantation. These grants were financed by the Kosovo Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MAFRD).
